• Therapist experience. A therapist with 10 to 20 years of experience commands a higher rate than a recent graduate. Worth paying for if you have a specific issue (chronic shoulder, sciatic pain, post-injury recovery).
• Product quality. Spas using cheap synthetic-fragrance oils sit at the lower end. Spas using cold-pressed organic oils and natural skincare such as Adelaide Hills Organics sit at the higher end. The smell, the after-feel and the skin response are different.

• $165 to $225: experienced therapist (5+ years), organic products, dedicated couples or premium rooms, longer pre-treatment consultation. Worth it for special occasions or if you have specific recovery needs.
• $225+ (single treatment): usually a signature ritual including extras such as scalp massage, hot stones, take-home product. Worth it for a proper restorative session.

How to know if a spa is fairly priced

A few quick checks before you book anywhere in Adelaide:

• Look at their Google reviews. A 4.8 rating with 100+ reviews means consistent quality. Below 4.5 with under 50 reviews, ask why.
• Check if they use natural and organic products. Cheap synthetic oils smell artificial and often leave skin reactive.
